Vacuuming of Contaminated Dust

The roof void area (attic) of many older Australian homes and buildings contains lead dust and other contaminants. This dust is also present in cavity walls and under the floor areas. Lead will gradually build up in your roof cavity.

Where does the lead come from?

In Metropolitan the contaminated dust is caused by exhaust from cars using leaded petrol, industrial pollution and fumes from burning wood or coal. Houses pre 1970 also contain higher amounts of lead from the breakdown of old lead paint.
Chances are you've heard of someone who suffered lead poisoning. This is a serious health issue and can be fatal at any age. When you take a breath, lead can get access into your body, tracesof lead are also found in the food and/or water stored at home. Unfortunetly many people are not aware of this until it is too late.

It won't Affect me will it?

Very small amounts of lead are known to cause serious long term health effects. Children under the age of four are at particular risk because:
their increased hand to mouth activity, they absorb more lead than adults and their brain and nervous systems are still developing.
Also Pregnant women may be at greater risk than other adults due to changes in their bodies during pregnancy. There is also no barrier to lead in the placenta and therefore no protection for the unborn child from lead in the mother’s blood. But, please remember anyone can be lead poisoned. SO PLEASE, if you are doing any type of work that will interfere with the ceiling cavity, make sure a qualified team of lead dust removalists clear the years of dust, grime and vermin out of your ceiling before its too late
